NEW VIDEO ADDED! Welcome back to the wonderful world of Nasty Drum Licks. Today we’re going to check out a really cool sounding idea that is based on 32nd notes. It combines double strokes or paradiddle-diddles with a hand foot pattern: FRLRLF. This hand/foot pattern is something I’ve heard Dave Dicenso play, and it’s something I would never have thought of on my own. What a great little combination–I love it!
There is a video and PDF here to help you learn to play this, so you should have everything you need to figure it out.
Here’s the video.
And here’s the PDF for you to download and follow along with the video: Nasty Lick 119
For those of you scratching your head about the title of this post, that’s the phonetic of what the first of half of example number one on the PDF sounds like to me.
Have fun with this and let me know what you think in the comments section.
PS
You’ve seen this idea on “The Drumming Blog” in other forms. Check out Nasty Lick #117 and Nasty Lick #115 for other versions of these patterns.
PPS – Imagine that you could regularly get these Nasty Licks delivered to your email inbox every time we post one. Great drumming vocabulary to raise your drumming level–free. Go do it–just type your email addy into the form below, and click that button.
