Just published and transcribed by Joerg Eckel, this book of Philly Joe Jones solos is certain to be very accurate.
On matters such as these, there is no one I trust more than John Riley, who, several years ago, told me about a student of his who had transcribed a large number of Philly Joe solos and was working to publish them.
At long last, the book is available. To get a copy, go to:
–Steve Maxwell’s in NYC
–Columbus Percussion in Ohio
–247 Drums in Boston
Have a look at the book cover:

I just received one and I’m really disappointed with it. The transcriptions are so faint and small that they’re nearly impossible to read (it looks like they were written in light pencil). Had I seen a view of the inside pages, I would not have ordered it. The author obviously put a ton of work into this effort – why not have the solos professionally type-set?
hi john,
is there any contact info on the author to go directly thru him for the book? if you or anyone knows contact me at sandstone8@yahoo.com

Hello! I’m late to the party. It’s now 2017. I’m seeing all these pages from the book that look great, not hand written looking. Is there a new version?
I don’t know! I’d love to see the new pages. I thought it was great as it was. Terrific book.

That’s the photo I took of my book.
Where do I send the invoice? 😉
