I’ve been stuck without my drum set again for a couple of months because of this COVID situation. The silver lining in no drum set is that I’m getting obsessive about my hands. Pad work every day.
I’ve been looking into rudimental exercises and checking out other people’s warm-ups and practice routines. I wanted to come up with a warm-up that was simple, effective, and focused.
And here it is. Just two exercises–switching back and forth between singles and doubles as triplets.
Have a look at the PDF with the notation, and then watch the video.
Here is the PDF: Rudimental Drumming Exercises #1
Below is a video of me playing the exercises at 104 bpm. Note that I play exercise 1a four times, pause, play exercise 1b four times, pause and play exercise 2 twice.
Give it a try and let me know what you think.
