There’s been much speculation about Mr. Colaiuta’s gear since his short-lived association with Ludwig Drums. The drum geeks of the world were looking to see what Vinnie would be playing when he went on the road with Sting this year. The wait is over. The answer is Heuer.
You can read about Chris Heuer’s drums at his website: www.heuersdrumlab.com
Although this may come as a bit of a surprise to many, Chris has gained a reputation for doing top-notch restoration, customization and repair work for many of Los Angeles’ top drummers for a while now. Apparently, he builds custom drums too. Good ones. Really good ones.
A quick look at Vinnie’s website shows that the empty grey space next to the Paiste logo on the “links” page has been replaced with the Heuer logo. Check it: www.vinniecolaiuta.com/home/links
In addition, check out the photo, above, of VC playing Heuers on the Sting tour.
It looks like Heuer’s business is about to take off.

Here is a decent look at the kit from the masters throne: pearl air suspension tom legs, yamaha hardware / pedals, remo black suede drum heads, maybe die cast rims.

Heuer Drums !
So glad Vinnie didn’t go back to that big YAMAHA on the bass drum.
Chris is the man! He is a true craftsman, especially when it comes to edges.
Just saw the Sting/Simon show in Melbourne. Yamaha kit. Even had the Yamaha logo clamped on the rack! Maybe it’s just for the Australian tour…
Very interesting. It would be a total full circle if VC went back to Yamaha, wouldn’t it? Perhaps he doesn’t want to endorse any drum company any more. The thing about endorsements that people don’t think about is that having a deal is a double edged sword. NOT having a lot of deals in place keeps you open to use whatever gear you want. That’s frankly, why I terminated my Sabian endorsement agreement. All the cymbals I like the most kept turning up Zildjian….that was when I asked, “why am I with Sabian?”
Perhaps Vinnie just wants to play what he wants to play…
YES IT IS TRUE. I SAW THAT SHOW TOO IN MELBOURNE FEBRUARY 2015. I’M PRETTY SURE THE YAMAHA DRUM SET HE WAS PLAYING IS AN OAK CUSTOM. CHEERS.
