Are you having trouble with your business? Are you thinking about starting a business but don’t know where to begin? Consider asking Warp Drive for advice.
The Origin of Warp Drive Business Consulting
Mark Feldman, the founder of BANG! The Drum School, created the Warp Drive Consulting moniker to give a name to the business consulting he began doing as a result of the success of his drum teaching business. Seeing the rapid rise of BANG! led many of Mark’s friends and relatives–and then friends and relatives of those friends and relatives–to begin asking Mark for advice. Eventually, it became apparent that Mark should begin charging for his advice, and “Warp Drive Consulting” was born.
The Rise of BANG! The Drum School
BANG! began in 2009 in a tiny basement in Williamsburg, Brooklyn, but quickly broke through the clutter of hundreds of drum teachers in the area. Now, it’s the #1 drum teaching studio in NYC.
The ascent of BANG! was not just luck. Mark has a strong business background from working in the corporate world. He also has an exceptional Ivy-League pedigree.
Mark’s Education and Business Background
Mark went to Cornell University where he got his Bachelor of Science in Business and Agricultural Economics (at Cornell’s college of Agriculture and Life Science). He later got his MBA from Columbia Business School.
After that, Mark spent more than a decade at Sony Music where his first job was to advise the General Manager of Columbia Records on strategy and new technology. He then became part of Sony Music’s Business Development and Technology team.
Following that, Mark was a Senior Director at Legacy Recordings, where he worked on re-issues and boxed sets for artists like Bob Dylan, Billy Joel, Santana, Stevie Ray Vaughan, Janis Joplin, Simon and Garfunkel, The Black Crowes and many others.
Next, Mark was made the VP and head of Marketing for Columbia Records’ prestigious and historic jazz imprint. In that role, Mark was instrumental in two major jazz successes: The Bad Plus and Chris Botti. He also worked with artists like Derek Trucks, Bela Fleck, Stanley Clarke, Eddie Henderson and Jeff “Tain” Watts.
Before leaving Sony Music in 2006, Mark spent over a year as a Vice-President of Marketing at Columbia Records where he was responsible for the marketing of many top-level artists, including Aerosmith, Pink Floyd and Bob Dylan.
